How I Support Students

Hello! ¡Hola! Olá! I'm Emma.

As a private tutor, I help native speakers of Spanish and Portuguese to develop the proficiency in English they need to achieve their personal and professional goals.

My students value my strong academic background in modern languages, cross-cultural communication skills and empathic approach. I draw on my knowledge and skills to enable them to become confident and effective English speakers.

How My Tutoring Journey Began

My journey as a tutor began when I bought a one-way ticket to Buenos Aires, where I had spent part of my undergraduate degree, and which I felt was pulling me back. As I settled back into life in Argentina, locals began to ask me to teach them English. I soon realised that I loved it – and that they valued my tutoring.

In Buenos Aires, I taught students in their homes, workplaces, and in companies, for a wide range of reasons: for example, so that they could attend conferences overseas, feel comfortable when travelling internationally, or start a new life abroad. I even taught students how to make apple crumble and custard in their kitchen!

After five years in Buenos Aires, I returned home with my Argentine cat to my native Suffolk, in the east of England, where I not only help adults to gain the English proficiency they need to achieve their goals, but also work as a translator and interpreter between Spanish, Portuguese and English.
